The United States Mint released designs for the Ronald Reagan Presidential dollar and Nancy Reagan First Spouse gold coin on Feb. 6.

The unveiling occurred at a ceremony hosted by Richard Peterson, the Mint’s deputy director of manufacturing and quality, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library. Marlin Fitzwater, President Reagan’s press secretary; John Heubusch, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation; and Brig. Gen. Edward Banta, commanding general of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, were in attendance.

The Reagan dollar is slated to first appear in the 2016 Presidential dollar proof set, appearing Feb. 16. Bags, rolls and boxes of the design will then release in July. A Coin and Chronicles set featuring a reverse proof Reagan dollar will go on sale in 2016, though a date has yet to be determined.

The Nancy Reagan First Spouse gold coin will mark the sixth time a U.S. coin has featured a living person during the time of release.

The Nancy Reagan First Spouse gold coin, available in July, is notable in that it will be just the sixth U.S. coin to feature a living person at the time of release.
