“Mele Kalikimaka” is the Hawaiian phrase meaning “Merry Christmas.” Now this phrase is memorialized on an elongated penny for Christmas 2012.
“Mele Kalikimaka” is the Hawaiian phrase meaning “Merry Christmas.”
The phrase is borrowed directly from English, but, since the Hawaiian language does not possess the “r” or “s” of English, “Merry Christmas” becomes “Mele Kalikimaka.”
Now this phrase is memorialized on an elongated penny for Christmas 2012. This year’s theme is “Surfing Santa” and features a jolly Santa on a surfboard wearing floral swim shorts, flashing the shaka greeting sign and offering a holiday flower lei.
These copper elongated pennies are $2 each, five for $7.50, 10 for $12.50 or 25 for $25, postage paid in the U.S. Quantity discounts are available.
