Half brings $299,000 at Long Beach

A branch mint proof 1839-O half dollar sold for $299,000 at the Feb. 2-5 Long Beach Coin and Collectibles Expo called by Heritage. The headline coin topped overall results in the $13 million sale.
Prices realized include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.
Selling for $161,000 was a Proof-67 Ultra Cameo 1869 gold $10 graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corp. Heritage noted that the piece is the finest known of the 25 minted.
Next up, the finest known 1860 Mormon gold $5 brought $155,250, this according to Professional Coin Grading Service records.
