What’s New in NumisMaster: March 2026
Coin of the Year nominations begin as Austria’s “Hippocampus” debuts—just as rising silver prices prompt mints to adjust.

“The Hippocampus” (KM# 3401) is the latest release in Austria’s “Fantastic Mythical Creatures” series. This €3 coin features a mythical creature with its horse-like upper body and a fish tail. When viewed under UV light, the imagery is breathtaking. Courtesy of NumisMaster.
We are underway with our Coin of the Year nominations. At the time of this article, mints are sending us the 2025 coins they wish to have selected for our 10 categories and ultimate Coin of the Year award. For NumisMaster, we must ensure all coins are on the site and have KM numbers. With over 500 coins nominated each year, this is just one way we know the correct information is provided for each issue we enter.
We have also conducted some significant pricing updates. To keep up with precious metal prices, especially silver, we have updated pricing for all 21st-century precious metal coins issued by the countries of Dominica, Grenada, Anguilla, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Laos, and Lebanon.
In my last article, I mentioned the record-high price of silver, and I am not surprised that, as I write this, it has reached $95. I also mentioned my curiosity about how this would affect future coin minting. I did not have to wait long. According to the United States Mint, with the rapidly rising silver prices, silver numismatic products may be temporarily removed from sale while prices are updated.
The Perth Mint is limiting the availability of some of its silver products, explaining that, while there is no silver shortage, the form in which it is in high demand is putting pressure on its manufacturing operations. It will be interesting to see whether any other mints around the world will do the same.
