Will collector demand for Mark Twain commemorative coins be exaggerated?

We will find out in 2016.

President Barack Obama signed legislation Dec. 4 that calls for the striking of up to 100,000 $5 gold coins and up to 350,000 silver dollars.

Coins will be struck in both proof and uncirculated qualities.

If all coins sell out, beneficiaries of the program’s surcharge income will reap $7 million. That is $35 per gold coin and $10 per silver dollar.

Do you know which modern commemoratives have the best potential for profit?

Surcharge income would be directed to The Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Conn.; the Mark Twain Project of the Bancroft Library at the University of California at Berkeley; Elmira College in New York, and the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum in Hannibal, Mo.
