The America the Beautiful quarter design honoring Colorado’s Great Sand Dunes National Park was officially introduced Sept. 4 at a ceremony in Mosca, Colo.
Associate Director of Manufacturing Dave Croft participated in the traditional coin pour and gave a plaque containing strikes from the first day of production to Lisa Carrico, park superintendent.
“With its awe-inspiring combination of desert dunes, high mountain peaks and flowing Medano Creek, I can see why Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve was chosen to represent the state of Colorado,” Croft said.
More than 1,400 schoolchildren attended the event. Afterwards, those in attendance were able to obtain rolls of the new quarters at face value.
