As I eagerly await to see what coins mints will produce for 2026, I have looked back at roughly 2,500 issues from 2025. A couple stood out and made me appreciate the process that went into making them. From the beginning stages to the final product, they were just beautiful. My favorite from the year is the “Predator or Prey in Shadow Box” coin (KM# 3567). The superimposed layers give the coin a different view as you move and examine it more closely.

With all the coins minted in 2025, and as we are in the early beginnings of the Coin of the Year awards for 2026, we would love to know which issue you liked the most. It could possibly be nominated in this year’s COTY awards! To share your pick with us, email n@aimmedia.com.

“Dryad” is the second coin in Mint XXI’s “Nature Spirits” series. Minted for Cameroon for 2026, this coin’s obverse shows a pair of hands holding the elements of air, earth, fire, spirit, and water. The reverse depicts a Dryad, a forest guardian. This high-relief coin, with a gem insert and an antique finish, is 2 oz of 0.999 Ag and carries a denomination of 2,000 francs CFA. Courtesy of Mint XXI.

I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to the contributors who have given their time and expertise to help ensure NumisMaster has accurate information. Given the vast number of coins out in the world, both old and new, this is no small feat!
