Should more Americans be honored with Congressional Gold Medals?
Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.
Yes ... more people should be honored. But the medals should be plated gold and not pure gold so as to save money and help our country not go bankrupt.

I would rather see silver medals for distinguished Americans. More affordable to more people. I would love to have more, but can not afford gold.

It is a possibility that it can happen. One way this can happen is if the party being considered is of an outstanding moral issue in this country. I am sure that this will be of many to be considered. Hopefully, this may help to weed it down.
Perhaps if it does happen to be in a grouping, a tenth of an ounce for each can be done to honor many, as well as be cost effective. I am hoping this may be of service in thought. Even a quarter ounce in silver may be helpful for those of economy base. Both can be done (I hope). If so,please let your opinions be known to Numismatic News.

Every American who reaches retirement age should be given a gold medal for having contributed to the well being of the country for so many years. I know this is not practical, but they deserve it. Sending a silver one-ounce medal with a first Social Security check would also do the trick. When was the last-time hardworking Americans were recognized in any way, shape or form?
Think about it.

More Americans should be honored – absolutely. We all need to be reminded of our extraordinary heritage. History isn’t taught like it once was. More medals might help.
