The Pobjoy Mint has released a brand new $1 coin celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on behalf of the British Virgin Islands.
Construction for the memorial began in 1914, and May 30, 2022, marks the 100th anniversary if its completion.
The memorial honoring the 16th President of the United States is fashioned after the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. With a statue of seated Lincoln, engravings of the Gettysburg address and second Inaugural Address, the memorial is an impressive sight that makes it on most people’s itinerary when visiting the city.
The coin is a tribute to the well-known U.S. president. People across the world have recognized the great things he did during his presidency. The uncirculated cupro nickel arrives in a presentation pack that depicts the memorial. The front of the pack has a view of Lincoln’s statue in its entirety and the back has a close-up view of the man himself. The obverse of the coin depicts an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse has the Lincoln memorial with his name across the top and $1 at the bottom. With a diameter of 38.60mm, weighing in at 28.28 grams, and a limited mintage of 1,922, there aren’t many of these coins available.
