The coin has a 3-inch diameter and contains .999 fine silver. It replicates the design featured on the America the Beautiful circulating quarter. Mintage is limited to 35,000.

The first 2011 uncirculated America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver collector coin with a “P” mintmark went on sale Sept. 22. The coin honors Gettysburg National Military Park. At press time, the price of the coin and the mintage had not yet been set. Five 2011 uncirculated ATB coins will be issued this year, with the same designs, but different finishes, as the bullion coins that honor Gettysburg National Military Park, Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Vicksburg National Military Park and Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

Final designs for the five America the Beautiful quarters that will be issued in 2012 were released by the U.S. Mint Dec. 8. The first new quarter of the new year will honor El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. It will depict a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a parrot behind an epiphyte plant, according to the Mint. It was designed by Gary Whitley, an Artistic Infusion master designer, and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, a Mint sculptor-engraver.

The 2010 Yosemite silver 5-ounce uncirculated collector coin sold out its 27,000 maximum just as the 2010 Grand Canyon 5-ouncer went up for sale June 29 on the U.S. Mint website. On that date the Mint was still taking names of collectors who were willing to be placed on a waiting list for the Yosemite coin in case some earlier orders didn’t work out.

Shipments to buyers of the Mint’s 25th anniversary silver American Eagle sets began Nov. 8, about three weeks earlier than expected. Frustrated collectors who were unsuccessful in obtaining one of the 100,000 sets priced at $299.95 each on Oct. 27 faced the prospects of paying higher prices on the secondary market.
