The State Mints of Baden-Wuerttemberg launched a new website: www.mintbw.de. Staatliche Münzen Baden-Württemberg (SMBW). They are Germany’s largest mint, the result of a merger in 1998 of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. They are responsible for producing 40 percent of Germany’s euro coins. The two formerly separate mints have retained their mintmark letters of “F” for Stuttgart and “G” for Karlsruhe.
The new website offers a virtual tour of both, latest news on the polymer coin that saw SMBW win the 2017 IACA Award for Best Coin Innovation, plus details of SBMW’s art medal series.
SMBW does not retail any coins of the Federal Republic of Germany. These can be obtained only from the Official Sales Agency for Collector’s Coins of the Federal Republic of Germany (VfS).
Go to www.bundesbank.de. Click on ENGLISH at top of page. Then click on TASKS and select CASH MANAGEMENT. Now choose “Euro coins.” It is probably easier to find a friendly dealer.
