From Australia to Niue, mints worldwide unveil new coins celebrating culture, literature, science, and natural wonders.

Australia

A Dhari headdress and star are encircled by relief motifs of reef patterns, traditional netting, and fishing traps, and the colors of the Torres Strait Islands’ flag on the Royal Australian Mint’s new AU$2 coin. Available in uncirculated aluminum bronze and fine silver proof variations, the coin commemorates 30 years since the Torres Strait Islander flag was officially recognized as one of Australia’s three national flags. It was designed by Royal Australian Mint artist Elyssa Waterford, with artwork by Erub Island artist Lavinia Ketchell, and flag designer Bernard Namok was also included.

United Kingdom

The orange and accident-prone Zog flies across the obverse of a UK 50p coin by the Royal Mint. This design was made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Zog’s original book release.

Canada

The moon is the source of connection for the lunar cycle, both in nature and on a new coin by the Royal Canadian Mint. The piece comes together in what is the mint’s first black-rhodium-plated design, composed of a puzzle of seven outer pieces that showcase North American critters and lunar phases, all centered around a central coin featuring a full moon.

Niue

The ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras is the first subject of the “Science Explained” coin series. Designed for Niue, the coin's obverse features the island nation’s coat of arms accompanied by a chalk-style scientific formula. On the reverse, a portrait of Pythagoras is featured, with a classic Greek temple and the Pythagorean theorem featured in the background.
