Numismatic UK Tour 2025 – Day 4

The Tower of London, which housed the Mint from 1279 to the early 1800s, kicked off today’s agenda.

Another light itinerary day for Day 4, but we all got our steps in as we started our day at the Tower of London.

There was a lot to see and do, so we spread out upon arrival. Of course, everyone made sure to stop into the Mint.

An interactive exhibit that showed just how dangerous it was to work in the Mint.

The Mint was installed in the tower in 1279 and was in operation until the early 1800s. The exhibit showcased the tools that were used, the dangers of the work, and even had an interactive activity to learn how the assayers operated.

Another interactive exhibit taught guests how to become an assayer.

There was also the Crown Jewels, the White Tower, which houses the Line of Kings, and the Royal Armouries. These are just a small taste of all the different things the Tower of London has to offer.

For the afternoon, we headed to the London Coin Fair. It was a smaller show by U.S. standards for a major coin show, but many guests still walked away with a few new additions to their collections, and all enjoyed the stroll around and looking at all the different coins and bank notes for sale.

A selection of locked money tins that were used to encourage people to trust local banks. These were on display at a dealer booth.
