Will their 75,000 mintages make the two dimes in the March of Dimes set valuable?
Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.
Will the set be valuable? Yes.
In the past when the U.S. Mint put a maximum mintage on a set or coin, collectors and investors called as soon as the items went on sale, leaving out 85 percent of all collectors looking to buy the set disappointed. Then they have to wait for the secondary market to go into effect and you know what that means, a buyer is going to sepnd a higher price than the Mint has posted on their website.
To me I think the U.S. Mint is very unfair with their sales pitch.

Hard to say. If they sell out fast, then yes. If they don’t, then no. FDR was a very popular President. He had to be to get elected four times, so I suppose the answer to the question is a vague “I don’t know yet.”

Anything that is unique to a circulating series will be a must-have. It will sell out in a day or two and would be a nice ending point for this series.

They have made commemoratives that have topped at 50,000 that can be had for a song on eBay or overpriced on TV. The 1995-W dime still can be had for a reasonable amount. It all works on supply and demand, demand being the catalyst.

I believe that the March of Dimes set will be sold out by the end of day on May 4. I just hope the Mint’s ordering system can handle the influx of orders and the sets are ready to be shipped.

Whenever the Mint strikes a special minor coin, they have been instant winners. In the U.S. coin market 75,000 is almost nothing. They will be instant winners if a collector can buy even one. The limit is five per order, which seems four too many to me.

A low mintage, and 75,000 meets that goal, plus demand and the after-market will dictate the price.

Yes,this looks like a “good deal” like it has from the past. By being in this venue only, unknown for stable growth. The limit, however, makes it attractive. Proof sets used to have a limit. This varied year to year as to what was ordered only. This will remain to be seen as to what interest will be seen in future items. Do I hear Eisenhower dollar offerings in the background? I do hope this will be of more interest in the hobby.
