The Central Arkansas Coin Club has issued a colorful wooden nickel for 2012 depicting the Civil War Battle of Pea Ridge that took place in Arkansas.

A color depiction of the battle is the central design on the obverse of the wood. Above is “Central Arkansas Coin Club 2012,” and below is “1862 Battle of Pea Ridge AR – 150 Years Ago.”

The reverse text indicates that the club meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month along with the meeting address: “Parkway Place, Baptist Church, 303 Parkway, Little Rock.” On the perimeter is Rodger Gudith, President” followed by his phone number, and “Good for a coffee or soda.”

It is true, United States tokens prove big things do come in small packages!

The wooden nickel is for sale to the public. Cost is $1 each, or $2 for three woods. Customers who order three will be eligible for a free wooden nickel of the club’s choice while supplies last.

Send order, payment and a self-addressed, stamped packing envelope to Tom Dodson, 6900 Skywood Road, Little Rock, AR 72207.

The Civil War wood is part of a state-wide commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Arkansas, observed between 2011 and 2015.

The celebration is led by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, which sanctions events, encourages research and education programs related to the Civil War in Arkansas, and preserves the sites that witnessed the Civil War in the state, according to a statement on its website, www.arkansascivilwar150.com.
