Celtic gold highlights Australian sale

The Noble Numismatics July 25-28 sale in Sydney included 112 lots of choice Ancient British coins. They were the property of a Queenslander who had formed the collection with considerable prudence over many years.
The lots ranged from early Gallo-Belgic staters through to later Celtic pieces issued under 1st century kings. Most consisted of private purchases from Chris Rudd and came with excellent provenances. They included gold, silver and bronze coins with gold staters leading the prices realized.
Top price of $9,361 [A$11,925], or double estimate, was realized by a 5.39 g TASCI RICON type gold stater struck by Tasciovanos, king of the Catuvellauni and the Trinovantes in North Thames, c. 25 B.C.E.-10 C.E. It had been found near Wantage, Oxfordshire.
