The new 100-euro gold coin depicting wild boars on both sides will be issued by the Austrian Mint Oct. 29.
It is struck in proof quality with a maximum mintage of 30,000 pieces. It has a diameter of 30 mm, contains 16 grams of gold and is .986 fine. Each coin is encapsulated and comes in a box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
It is the second annual gold coin issued in the mint’s six-piece “Wildlife in Our Sights” series.
On obverse a large boar’s head looks outward. It is surrounded by variety of grasses and vegetation that it likes to munch on.
It was designed and engraved by the mint’s chief engraver, Thomas Pesendorfer.
The coin’s reverse shows a female, or wild boar sow, watching over her two young offspring.
A badger looks on in the woodland habitat that both animals share. It was designed and engraved by mint engraver Helmut Andexlinger.
A wooden collector case with a rustic elegant design is available for the series. The case is adorned with a gracefully minted shield designed and crafted by the mint’s in-house engravers.
