Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s to Auction One of the World’s Most Valuable Coins: “The Crown Coin, Her Masterpiece”

Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s will auction The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece—widely hailed as the world’s most valuable coin, a dazzling tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in gold and diamonds.

London, September 2025 – Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s is set to present one of the most significant moments in numismatic history with the upcoming auction of The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece. Widely regarded as the world’s most valuable coin, it was last independently valued at £16 million in 2022. Now, it comes to market with a conservative starting auction estimate of £2–3 million, though experts suggest its rarity and cultural significance could see it achieve far more when it goes under the hammer on 25th September 2025.

Minted by The East India Company, The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece stands as a unique commemorative creation, bearing five official effigies of Queen Elizabeth II across a collection of 11 proof legal tender 999.9 gold coins. At its heart is a remarkable 1kg gold coin, accompanied by ten 24-karat 1oz gold coins depicting the six virtues: Truth, Justice, Charity, Courage, Victory, and Constancy, which are also represented on the Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham Palace. Together, these symbols embody the values that guided Her Majesty’s reign and defined the modern Elizabethan era.

Measuring 235mm in diameter and 30mm in depth, this unique coin represents a feat of craftsmanship and global collaboration. Over 83 artisans across eight countries contributed to its creation, which features 3.61 kilograms of gold and an extraordinary 6,426 diamonds, weighing 483.57 carats in total. The diamonds were cut and polished in Australia, South Africa, and Canada, then certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The design was conceived in Britain, refined in Sri Lanka and England, engraved in Singapore, coins minted in Germany and the Netherlands, and finally assembled in India, echoing the global reach of Her Majesty’s influence.

“This is more than a coin; it is a cultural artefact,” said a spokesperson from Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s. “The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece stands alongside the most celebrated creations in numismatic history, from the legendary 1,000 Tola Gold Mohur of Mughal Emperor Jahangir to the great commemorative works of European royalty. It is a once-in[1]history tribute to a sovereign whose reign will never be equaled.”

The auction will be open to bidders across the world, both live in person at Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s flagship at 399 Strand, London, and via its digital platform. In line with SGB’s commitment to innovation, cryptocurrency will also be accepted as payment, subject to the relevant due diligence and KYC checks, a move that places this sale firmly in the sights of new-generation collectors and Web 3.0 audiences.

The coin’s creation reflects not only an homage to Britain’s Golden Queen but also to the timeless art of numismatics itself. Its global provenance underscores the unity, loyalty, and shared admiration that Queen Elizabeth II inspired across continents.

As Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II presided over a period of profound transformation at home and abroad, while remaining a constant source of loyalty, duty, and dignity. The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece encapsulates her reign in a single creation of extraordinary rarity, artistry, and cultural resonance.

The auction of The Crown Coin: Her Masterpiece will take place in London in September 2025, hosted by Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s.
