Poll Question: Which of the Semiquincentennial coins is your favorite? Why?

From the February 13, 2026, Numismatic News e-Newsletter, readers say they want coins that celebrate American history with stronger symbolism and more traditional artistic execution.

2026 various Quarters. Thank you to the U.S. Mint for these new designs. It's good to see the Liberty Bell again. Bring more American history to our coins: the Oregon Trail, the Pony Express, the Louisiana Purchase.

Our coins should teach all generations the beauty of our nation and its rich history.

There should be a set of coins in every denomination celebrating the WW1 and WW2 victories. The lesser-known heroes: Sergeant York, Audie Murphy, and Dolittle.

The United States has a very distinct history, and our coins should tell our stories.

I like the one with the Pilgrim standing with the typical Dutch-style hat. Other than that, I don’t really like any of the coins coming out of the U.S. Mint in the last decade or so. Everything looks digitized, and the surfaces are all perfectly sand-blasted in appearance. With a glass, it’s even worse - a desert landscape of digital dots, all perfectly sterile. The designs are bad, too. They always try to jam too many theme elements onto the design, missing any chance of producing a bold, symbolic message. Compare any modern remake to coins minted with previous technologies (i.e., Peace $), and my point is well made.

The Mayflower Compact quarter is my favorite of the planned U.S. 2026 coin designs. It uses attractively detailed designs on both sides of the coin - reminiscent of our classic coinage of years gone by.

The other coins appear to incorporate design features that are more mass production-friendly than artistic. Our coins need another St Gauden design style makeover - and all that entails.
