Late August through early September, Archives International Auctions will be conducting a live catalog sale from its offices in Fort Lee, N.J.

That catalog was still a work in progress at the time of writing. However, the processing of notes from two significant collections was well under way. These alone make the catalog required reading for world paper money collectors.

Front and center is a strong collection of Middle Eastern notes from Iraq, Morocco, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, etc. There is room for just four examples here:

• Banque de Syrie et du Liban one livre specimen 1939, P-15s, PCGS Choice New 63;

Rare Banque d’Etat du Maroc, 5,000 francs specimen, P-23s, in UNC to be offered at AIA’s live catalog sale in late August-early September.

• Banque d’Etat du Maroc, (c. 1938), specimen 5,000 francs, P-23s, UNC (staple holes);

• Iraq 1/4 dinar, L. 1931 (1935), P-7e, PCGS Very Fine 35;

• Iraq 10 dinars, L. 1947 (1950), P-31, PMG graded Very Fine 25.

One of 10 early Communist issues on offer: May 1939 Lan County Bureau of Finances temporary exchange note two jiao. The denomination is in the two boxes, the serial number is hand-written, and the seals at the bottom are those of the chairman and head of the Bureau of Finance.

Secondly are further selections of Chinese rarities from the Pogrebetsky Family Archives. AIA is gaining a reputation for producing sleepers out of this particular hat. Perhaps a May 1939 two jiao temporary issue of the Lan County Bureau of Finances in Shanxi Province will prove one such. If not, there are nine similar early Communist notes on offer.

French text Canadian 1935 $10 (P-45; BC-8) comes graded EF. That’s Princess Mary at left.

For collectors into issues of the Americas, this is the sale that will feature the Panama papers described in BNR’s last issue. Alternatively, how about an issued Banque Du Canada 1935 $10 (P-45; BC-8) in EF?

As is usual, the AIA catalog is rich in U.S. notes, coins, scripophily, bonds and security printing ephemera. Full details and bidding information will be posted at the Archives International website: www.ArchivesInternational.com in due course. For a hard copy of the catalog email: info@archivesinternational.com or by mail: Archives International Auctions, 1580 Lemoine Ave, Suite #7, Fort Lee, NJ 07024.
