Are too many attractive coin offers tempting you to overspend?
Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.
Not after the past few years of being taught lessons by the United States Mint allowing large coin stores to purchase the unlimited offers just to attempt to later sell them to me in certified MS70 holders. That has resulted in my being a bit more cautious about getting excited about new offers.
I will make that judgement when and if the Mint is a bit more generous to base clients like myself.
The Mint needs to do the hobby a favor by limiting purchase numbers for a few days.

Started on ancient coins, and they are more expensive than my American coins.

Are you kidding me? It’s beyond temptation! I’m addicted. I love beautiful coins and medals.
And sometimes I tell myself, well, just don’t look, and that lasts about a day, and then I look, and try to figure out how to buy that specific piece.
I’m addicted.
Thank goodness it’s coins and medals I’m addicted to and not those other vices!

Yes, overspending can be a problem for most of us. For me, not so, for the most part. I have learned over time to stay within my budget. On a rare occasion, I was not able to make it to a coin show venue. Thus, saving most of it for the next show I am able to make.
A more stringent point: I stick within my cost/grade guide. Also, I try and figure in the cost of gas saved to add to the mix. Yes, this does help along the way.
