Songwriter Irving Berlin received a medal. Should numismatics have a theme song?

Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.

“We’re in the Money (the Gold Diggers’ Song)” from the movie “Gold Diggers of 1933” immediately came to mind.

Everyone should have a theme song. Lots to choose from:

• “Pennies from Heaven”
• “Bad Penny” (with all the counterfeits around)
• “Penny on the Train Track” (for TEC)
• “Penny Lane”
• “Penny Lover”
• “Big Coin”
• “Three Coins in the Fountain”
• “Flip a Coin”
• “Your Cash Ain’t Nothin’ but Trash”
• “Life on the Nickel”
• “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?”
• “It’s All About the Benjamins”

And there are lots more out there.

Yes, I think it should have a song: “I’m going from Rags To Riches.”

Sure. “Three Coins in the Fountain” would be appropriate. For every three coins a collector buys, one of the three will be blessed with an increase in value. The other two will not be so blessed.

Yes indeed, on Ricki Lee Jones’ “Chucky’s in Love” album, there is a tasty tune called “Easy Money,” a gem of a song most people are unfamiliar with.

I actually think we should have a theme song that speaks out to coin collectors from all over the globe. However, I don’t have an idea at the moment for an identifiable selection. I’m sure that all coin collectors would really enjoy this.

As soon as I read your question, this song came to mind: “Money” by Pink Floyd, with the clinking of coins. I really enjoy that part.
