Hopes in some quarters that the Buchanan First Spouse gold coins might sell out may be giving way to despair this week as the proof version registered sales of seven coins and the uncirculated number actually fell; returns no doubt.

The maximum number that can be struck and sold is 15,000, so current totals combined put us two-thirds of the way there.

The gold proof Buffalo moved up by a low 485. Does everyone who wants one have one now? We are still roughly 12,000 below the 2009 sales total.

The basic clad proof set recorded sales of an additional 40,006 to bring the running tally to 753,862.

The 2009 silver proof set moved higher by 1,236 to 298,562. Elevated silver prices are pushing melt value ever closer to the sales price. Melt is $25.60, which is just $4.35 below issue price.

Silver and gold American Eagle bullion coins rose a bit, the gold ounce by 18,000 and the silver by 625,000.
