Mint Stats: Two continues better than one
The 2-coin Star-Spangled Banner commemorative proof set outsold the individual proof gold $5 piece for the second week in a row, but the gap has narrowed substantially. Buyers grabbed 890 of the sets compared to 546 of the proof $5 coins. The lower cost silver dollars saw buyers prefer proofs by roughly 3:1.
The 2-coin Star-Spangled Banner commemorative proof set outsold the individual proof gold $5 piece for the second week in a row, but the gap has narrowed substantially. Buyers grabbed 890 of the sets compared to 546 of the proof $5 coins.
The lower cost silver dollars saw buyers prefer proofs by roughly 3:1. They took 15,597 proofs and 5,363 uncirculated coins.
Sales for the National Infantry silver dollar proof was 6,563. The uncirculated added 2,402 for the week. Interestingly, the Defenders of Freedom Set still has not sold out. Sales rose by 3,026 to reach 43,446 of the maximum 50,000 available.
Sales of the 2011 proof platinum American Eagle went up by 15 coins to reach 13,937, not exactly a gang-busters weekly figure.
The 2012 proof Buffalo one-ounce gold piece that the Mint began selling for $1,960 has been added to the chart below. Buyers have taken 4,110 of the new coins in the opening days of sales. The 2011 coin went off sale with a last reported total of 25,802.
The Birth set starts at 5,670 this week.
