The 2014-W proof silver American Eagle seems to have the stamina of a long-distance runner. This week it raced through the 400,000 level, reaching 410,103. That is up by 24,058 for the week, a rate of gain that grew from last week’s pace.
The 2013 platinum proof American Eagle has gone off sale. Total vended stand at 5,763. That number could change a bit as any last returns are accounted for.
It seems strange to see sales of both the silver and the clad five-quarter proof sets running at similar rates. The silver set is at 67,770 while the clad set is at 63,080. Lest you think that is a fluke, you can see the 2013 silver number of 130,819 and the clad is 123,909. The silver set has acquired preferred status among collectors of America the Beautiful quarters.
Platinum American Eagle one-ounce bullion coins were up by just 100 pieces. Is the market for the coins saturated already?
One-ounce gold American Eagle bullion coins advanced by 5,000 pieces this week, but the March running total is still an anemic 8,500 coins.
