With the window closing on the opportunity to buy the reverse proof one-ounce gold Buffalo coin, about another 5,000 of the coins were sold this past week.
Sales hit 37,314, almost three times the number of regular one-ounce Buffalo proof coins sold – 13,606.
Good news for the Eagle gold bullion coin, sales jumped 5,000 for them as well, from 3,500 to 8,500. It was looking for awhile there that the Eagle was getting lost in all the hype over the new Buffalo reverse proof.
But collector proof gold Eagle sales aren’t moving much. Sales for August stand at 12,253 compared to 12,113 a week ago.
Meanwhile, one-ounce silver Eagle bullion coins are selling like hot cakes, up more than 1 million from 2,446,000 coins to 3,625,000. Granted, there’s a big difference in the price tag between silver and gold, but they allow just about anyone to get a foot in the bullion coin market.
