Proof 2012-W silver American Eagles sales set the pace this week. Buyers nabbed another 41,853 pieces to bring the running total to 701,291. It is no secret that collectors prefer proofs to uncirculated versions of the same coin. This week’s tallies demonstrate this in spades. The 2012-W uncirculated silver Eagle sales rose by less than one-tenth the number achieved by the proofs at 3,909. This brings the running total to 140,073. Overall, buyers have preferred proofs by 5-1 since both sales options became available.

Sales of the Making American History set rose by 1,778 to 39,432.
Bullion buyers took 12,000 additional 1-ounce gold American Eagles and 865,000 silver American Eagles. Action for 5-ounce silver bullion coins centered on Acadia and Hawaii.
