Mint Stats: Are clad proofs going way of dodo?

Sales of 2013 5-quarter proof sets seem to be running out of gas already. Only 887 more were ordered by buyers, bringing the total to 54,827. At this low sales rate, by the end of the year total sales will hardly equal two-thirds of the 2012 5-quarter set. Just a bad week?

Sales of the 2013 silver 5-quarter set are healthier, up 5,567 on the week to 67,769. What is most interesting about this set is 12,942 more of these have been sold than the clad version already. Last year the difference was 5,374 and in 2011 the clad set outsold the silver set. Are collectors shifting permanently their preference to the silver 5-coin set?

The 2013-W proof silver American Eagle added 23,506 to its sales, bringing the number sold so far to 303,958. This was a better week than last when 21,592 were vended by the Mint.

Bullion American Eagle sales are slowing down partly due to rationing of the silver pieces. However, collectors who want 2013 dates fast now have them.
