The quantity of gold American Eagle bullion coins sold in April by the U.S. Mint more than doubled in the past week to April 23. Frantic buyers have been beating the doors down at the shops of American coin dealers and they in turn have been sending their orders through the distribution chain back to the Authorized Purchasers who buy coins from the U.S. Mint. With a week of sales to go in April, the Mint has vended 155,500 one-ounce gold Eagle bullion coins, easily beating January’s strong start to the year of 124,500 one-ounce coins. Adding all Eagle coin sizes together, the Mint has sold 175,000 ounces of gold so far in April compared to 150,000 in January.

With the supply of silver American Eagle bullion coins rationed, the sales numbers for April don’t come anywhere near January’s record sales total.

Gold Eagle sales, as strong as they are, have a long way to go before they set records.
