The price of palladium now exceeds that of platinum. Unless I have missed something, this is the first time since 2001 this has happened. While this was going on, the Mint began selling its first palladium bullion coins. Good timing or bad? We will see if investors like the idea of buying expensive palladium. While we are waiting, I have taken over the platinum column on the monthly sales box below and installed palladium in its place. The Mint sold 15,000 of these new American Eagles.
Silver Eagle bullion coins saw an increase of 195,000. The September total stands at 320,000. This will be the lowest monthly sales total in 2017 even if a few more are sold in the last two days of the month.
A further indignity for platinum is the proof Eagle sales number fell by 35. Now standing at 8,957, a sellout of all 10,000 looks more and more unlikely. Enhanced unc. sets rose by 3,455 to reach 194,661.
