Mint sells 16,000 gold American Eagles this week

Last week’s news that the Mint is no longer rationing its supply of gold American Eagle coins, but that rationing continues for silver might help explain why gold sales went up 16,000 coins this week and silver sales didn’t. The Mint simply had some gold coins to sell.

The 2009 proof American Buffalo sales rose by just 394, but at 49,388 it is near the nice round 50,000 number. Will that be when sales end? We’ll see.

Sales of Disabled Veterans dollars rose a bit. The proofs are up by 9,098 pieces to 116,414 and the uncirculated coins are up by 3,334 to 49,954. We still haven’t quite reached the halfway point for a potential sellout. Boy Scout numbers should start appearing next week as collectors have a new program to spend their money on.

Sales of the available Lincoln rolls crept ahead a bit. They were to be offered at the Mint’s booth at the ANA convention and next week’s numbers will show whether it made a difference.
