The 2008 quarter-ounce gold proof American Eagle annual sales total more than doubled to 14,795 this week. Another large increase was for the “W” uncirculated gold American Eagle, which rose 988 to 6,715.
Coin collectors were in a buying mood this week for proof Eagles. Sales of the 2011 silver proof American Eagle vaulted higher by 133,420 while the one-ounce gold proof American Eagle jumped by 4,514. Buyers also seemed to have developed a new fondness for the 9/11 medals. The West Point version saw sales of 9,830 this week, pushing the cumulative total up by almost 24 percent to 51,289.
