If there was a top performer this week, it might just be a surprising jump in sales of the 5-Star General uncirculated clad half dollar. Buyers snapped up 2,112 to bring the running count up to 20,477. It is not often that sales move by over 10 percent.

Sales of the 2013 silver American Eagle bullion coin to the Mint’s authorized purchasers exceeded four million coins for the month of July to become the second highest sales month of 2013. Only January’s sales of 7,498,000 are higher than the 4,406,500 sold in July.
The one-ounce 2013 proof gold American Eagle moved ahead by 1,416 to reach 10,863.
