The 2010 uncirculated coin set hits the page with sales of just over 200,000 as the 2009 set leaves with sales of just under 775,000. That means that already a quarter of the number of uncirculated sets sold last year have been sold in just a few days.
However, last year’s set started out in the first few days with sales double that number. That might be ominous, but the 2009 set didn’t go on sale until October, and collectors might have been a little anxious last year that they were not getting the sets in the usual July period because of technical problems with copper cent production and preservation.
In the end, though, the 2009 sales number was hardly more than the 745,000 figure for the 2008.
So what does all this mean? Probably, “Relax, it’s summertime and collectors will buy the sets when they return their focus to their hobby.”
Other collector sales numbers just crept ahead also, so it is not a big deal.
