Will you check your change to find the new 'P' mintmarked 2017 cent?

Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.

Why wouldn’t anyone into pennies/coins look for the mintmark, especially if the Mint didn’t plan to include it? I look at all change received, so I’ll look for the “P” mintmark, closely. I suppose it’ll be worth – a pretty penny.

Heck yes. I have always looked at dates and mintmarks

You can for sure bet that I will be looking for “P” cents. Two or three bricks, anyway, if not more.
Heading for the bank.

Of course. Any numismatist or collector looks for a mintmark before checking the coin for anything else. Well, at least this one does. It’s all part of the fascination of the hobby itself.

I always check my change. Glad to see they are making some change at the U.S. Mint.

It would be refreshing to see some changes to the obverse and reverse of the dime, too. I would like to see something else done with the half dollar reverse and obverse. I always thought the reverse of the half dollar would have been a better canvas for the states and ATB quarters.

Yes, I certainly will look for the new cent. I always make a note of the first coin of the new year.

Yes, I just have to wait until June or so. I’ll hopefully be back in the States then to see for myself. Until then, I’ll just make do and wait.

Sure! This is another potential collectors item that doesn’t have a premium on the cost. Remember the 2009 Lincoln cents that disappeared from circulation? Plan to set aside a few uncirculated rolls for the future.

I will absolutely check my change for the new 2017-P Lincoln cent.

I always check my change and certainly will be doing so now for the 2017-P cent. This one is going to be a hoarder similar to the 2009 special issues. Although the Mint produced millions and millions, go and try to find a 2009 cent with the commemorative Lincoln life reverses. Rare. I think that the 2017-P will also be hoarded by collectors and folks that know about this monumental event and commemoration of the Philly mint.
