Mint Stats: Totals move in small amounts
Buyers of the 2012 clad proof set seem to be quickly satisfied. Demand has fallen to just 18,305 this week to bring the running total to 261,799. At that rate it will take almost four months to double the present number. That would leave it at roughly half the number of 2011 sets sold as the autumn collecting season gets going in September.
The Mint sold six times the number of 2011 four-coin proof gold Eagle sets. That sounds good until you realize just six sets were sold compared to one last week. The running tally is 18,153.
The Defenders of Freedom Set went backwards yet again but only by 33 this week. So far 43,694 have been sold. There is a 50,000 maximum availability. Since not everyone can return their sets, this backwards momentum must soon run its course.
Collectors took 14,449 silver American Eagle 2012-W proof coins. Since April 12 381,725 have been purchased. When readers get this issue they will be contemplating the “S” mint two-coin silver American eagle set with proof and reverse proof coins in it. Sales of this set are to be conducted June 7 until July 5.
