Silver proof set added to list

Entering the listing for the first time this week are sale figures for the 14-coin 2010 United States Mint Silver Proof Set, which went on sale Aug. 26 at $56.95 per set.

As of Aug. 29 data supplied by the Mint, 241,656 sets had been sold.

By contrast, last year’s 18-coin silver proof set (featuring the four Lincoln Bicentennial cents) sold 694,406 units and cost $52.95.

The 14-coin clad proof set edged higher to 474,018, an increase of 47,704; and the 28-coin uncirculated sets were up by 39,617.

Sales of the one-ounce American Eagle gold bullion coin remained sluggish and on track to achieve the lowest monthly total of 2010. The latest figure is 39,000 ounces, which is an increase of just 1,500 ounces from the Aug. 22 Mint report and well back of the prior low of 60,500 posted in June.

Overall, sales of one-ounce gold Eagles stand at 805,000 for 2010.
