The first sales numbers for U.S. Army commemoratives hit the boards below.
It looks like the silver dollar gets the title of most popular for this report. It has sold 13.5 percent of the maximum available while the gold is 10.9 percent of the maximum available and the half dollar is 6.6 percent of the maximum available. The half dollar is handicapped by the fact that it is copper-nickel clad. Collectors like silver better, but nevertheless, buyers have snapped up nearly 50,000 of the halves.
With the changeover to the month of February, the 2011 running totals for the American Eagle bullion coins appear in the rightmost column. Last week showed the 2010 totals. Demand seems to be dropping substantially for the one-ounce gold Eagle in February thus far and somewhat less for the one-ounce silver.Perhaps eager buyers for the 2011 dates have been satisfied.
