September platinum, silver and gold bullion sales were the second best this year so far in terms of ounces sold.
Platinum American Eagles, facing weak sales and a sales cut-off date of Oct. 1, had 2,700 ounces sold in September. The best month of sales was March, when they were released, with 10,000 ordered.
Gold American Eagles had their second best month in terms of total ounces sold in September, with 58,000 ounces vended. Their best month of sales was January, when 91,500 ounces were purchased.
In terms of total coins sold, September placed third with 93,500 coins ordered across the one-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce and tenth-ounce sizes. The second best month was April, with 101,000 total coins sold.
Silver American Eagles saw sales of 4,140,000 coins in September. The best month was January when Authorized Purchasers bought 4,775,000 coins.
Collector coin action was slowed down a bit when the U.S. Mint transitioned to a new website. The new website went live online Oct. 1.
