Mint Stats: Platinum’s back where it belongs

For the first time since 2008, the bullion platinum American Eagle coin has taken its place in the monthly Eagle sales table. First figure is 8,700 coins. That’s not a bad number considering that so far in March the one-ounce gold is just 3,000 coins. However, early demand is usually heavier, so gold will go back on top.
Sales of 2014-W proof silver American Eagle coins began rising again after last week’s drop. A further 20,857 were vended, bringing the running tally to 386,045 so far this year.
The bullion silver Eagle has already seen buyers take more than 10 million coins. At this rate we could see another record by the end of the year.
Under the heading of “Can’t Win for Losing,” a sharp-eyed reader pointed out that the Baseball Hall of Fame gold $5 and silver dollar mintage figures were switched. They were. The dollar maximum is 400,000 and the gold $5 maximum is 50,000. With sales beginning on March 27, the initial totals will start appearing in three weeks.
Civil Rights dollar numbers continue to move ahead very slowly.
