Now how can I hide? For several weeks the 2014 five-quarter silver set has been listed as the 14-coin silver proof set. A sharp-eyed reader spotted the mistake and called me on the carpet about it. It is corrected now.

People in China and India reportedly are still buying large quantities of gold. Americans? Not so much. There is nothing to write home about in the February gold American Eagle sales numbers or the gold Buffalo numbers to crow about.

One-ounce gold Eagles stand at 17,000 for the month, compared to 68,000 last year. The Buffalo figures presently tie the result of February 2013, but the running total for this year is behind last year’s figure.

Silver Eagles, of course, continue to move ahead as fast as the Mint’s rationing will allow.

The Mint adjusted the sales numbers for the various options of proof 2013 gold American Eagles even though they have been off sale for some while now.

Sales of Civil Rights commemoratives move ahead slowly. Proof silver 2014 Eagles are at nearly 375,000.
