Holiday demand for annual sets produced by the U.S. Mint seems to be kicking in this week. Sales of the clad 2011 proof set rose by 16,545 to reach 933,011. The silver proof set moved ahead by 5,789 to 493,708.
Sales of the 2011 proof silver American Eagle jumped by 18,011 to reach 841,609. Add in the 100,000 in the 25th anniversary silver Eagle set and total mintage of 941,609 is now approaching 1 million. If the 1 million mark is attained, it would be only the third time the silver Eagle proof has reached this figure. The other two years are 1986 and 2006.
The uncirculated silver Eagle is not nearly so popular, but it looks like it will cross the 200,000 mark shortly. This week’s figure is up 4,112 to 191,922.
The Mary Todd Lincoln proof First Spouse coin is now sold out. The last sales figure of 6,909 has the asterisk beside it.
Gold bullion Eagle sales are up a sluggish 6,000 coins to 11,500 so far in the month of November.
