Mint Stats: Buyers find gold in baseball offering
The gold baseball coins sold out the day after they went on sale.
The gold baseball coins sold out the day after they went on sale. The silver dollars are more than half gone, but there are plenty of clad half dollars to go around.
The cupped coins have excited the hobby like nothing has since the special silver American Eagle sets.
If the silver dollars also sell out soon, perhaps collectors will notice that the maximum mintage for the Civil Rights silver dollar is lower than it is for the baseball dollar.
In the shadow of the baseball excitement, the regular clad proof set for 2014 went on sale. The Mint sold over 200,000 sets in less than a week. Many collectors still make their purchases as soon as a Mint product becomes available and this opening number is evidence that this old habit still exists.
The Mint sold 5,354,000 silver American Eagle bullion coins in March. That is a strong number, but rationing supply still means it must be taken with a grain of salt. The monthly average of the first three months is 4.6 million as compared to 2013’s 4.7 million.
