As we get nearer to what will be a somber 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City Sept. 11, more 9/11 medals seem to be moving out the door. Sales this week saw buyers take another 8,109 West Point medals and 5,301 more 9/11 medals from Philadelphia.

Why the “W” mint should be so consistently ahead of Philadelphia must be due to the novelty of the “W” product. Many collectors grew up believing everything from the “P” mint is common.
Another factor that might be stimulating sales is the $10 price hike for the medal that was slated for Aug. 16. Collectors might procrastinate on a purchase, but they do not want to pay more when they do not have to.
Proof 2011 silver American Eagles moved ahead by just 28,522 to reach 621,983.
