Mint Stats: 2013 clad proof sets pass 760,000 mark

Demand for proof sets receded this week.

Demand for proof sets receded this week. Just 10,695 2013 clad proof sets were sold, bringing the ongoing total to 760,090. Buyers of 2013 silver proof sets added 6,046 to the running total that is now at 405,818. Sales of 2013 uncirculated coin sets crawled ahead to 341,436.

Gold buyers and Mint accountants were busy. Another 19,500 one-ounce gold American Eagle bullion coins went out the door in the week ending Dec. 22, bringing the December sales total to 49,500, which is the highest monthly sales figure since May’s 61,500. Some buyers perhaps are looking for a bottom in the present gold price.

The Mint accountants increased the three-coin proof set of the 5-Star General program by one set to 9,999 even though the set has been sold out for quite some time.

Half dollar collectors were busy. They took another 3,472 of the 2012 two-roll set and 1,211 of the 2013 200-coin bag, but only 255 of the 2013 two-roll set.
