Holiday buying lifts Mint product sales

Holiday gift buying is likely pushing up sales of traditional collector favorites like proof sets. This week, the 2014 clad sales number rose by 20,653 to reach 580,325.

The 2014 Presidential dollar proof set added another 6,375 to its running total to vault over the 200,000 mark, settling at 203,926. That is a strong weekly performance for a set that has been available for quite some time. However, the 2014 set is still far behind th 2013 set total, which currently stands at 264,900 and is still being sold.

Late buyers of 2014 silver American Eagles are not quite as fond of proof versions compared to the “W” uncirculated coin buyers. Proof sales rose by 4,039 and the uncirculated number increased by 3,626, an almost 1-to-1 ratio. However, the running tallies tell a different story. The proofs are 713,899 and the uncirculateds are 215,855 for a preference of well over 3 to 1 in favor of proofs overall.

Silver bullion Eagles saw the rationed supply increase by 737,000 this week to reach 3,307,500 for the month. The ounce gold Eagles rose by 7,000.
