On February 24, 2026, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) met for a public, virtual meeting to discuss coinage designs for 2027-dated coins. The video conference was livestreamed via the U.S. Mint’s YouTube channel, allowing the public to sit in and listen to the discussion.

The agenda for the meeting included the discussion of the obverse and reverse design portfolios for the 2027 Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Program, the Billie Jean King Congressional Gold Medal, and the reverse design portfolios for the American Youth Sports quarters and Paralympic half dollar.

The Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Act was signed into law in November 2024, directing the U.S. Mint to issue special coins honoring working dogs. There will be a $5 gold, $1 silver, and a half-dollar clad coins. The Act was introduced to Congress in February 2023 with support from America’s VetDogs (vetdogs.org). America’s VetDogs is a national nonprofit, providing trained service dogs to veterans and first responders. The surcharges from the coin program will go towards funding the program.

Next up for discussion was the Billie Jean King Congressional Gold Medal. There were no design choices for the CCAC to vote on, but they were still provided the proposed design for review. King also attended the meeting, sharing a bit of her story and the input she had on the design. She will become the first individual female athlete to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

Americans are no strangers to changing quarter reverse designs. From the State Quarters program to the America the Beautiful quarters, followed by the American Women quarters program, and now the semiquincentennial quarters. In 2027, the Mint will be kicking off the four-year Youth Sports Quarters Program. The first quarters will feature baseball, golf, soccer, softball, and snowboarding. There will also be a 2027 Paralympic Sports Half Dollar, honoring wheelchair basketball.
