Wooden nickel for April show

The Great River Regional Coin Club celebrated its April 5 spring coin show with a new wooden nickel.

The Great River Regional Coin Club celebrated its April 5 spring coin show with a new wooden nickel.

For the central design, the club uses a reverse of the Shield nickel, which was produced by the U.S. Mint from 1866 until 1883. It is of the type that has no rays radiating from the “5.”

The other side of the piece says, “GRRCC, Kelly Inn, St. Cloud, MN, Sunday, April 5, 2009, 38th Annual Spring Coin Expo.”

The club is selling the wooden nickels for 40 cents each or five for $2. It asks buyers for a self-addressed, stamped legal-size envelope and specifies they include sufficient postage to cover a padded insert.

Orders should be sent to the club at P.O. Box 122, Sartell, MN 56377.

The club is also selling past issues for the same price for 1999-2004 spring shows and 2002-2004 and 2006-2008 fall shows.
