Three-term American Numismatic Association board of governors member Wendell Wolka announced Oct. 25 his intention to retire from the board when his current term expires in August 2013.

“I ran for the board at a critical juncture in the Association’s history, hoping that I could make a difference in helping to stabilize the organization so that it could move forward in good condition, under a steady hand,” he said.

Wolka, who is from Greenwood, Ind., was first elected in the watershed election of 2007 when all incumbent governors were defeated.

“Through the efforts of a large number of ANA members, supporters, staff, and board members, I believe we have been able to largely accomplish this. As a result I feel that it is now time to step aside and let others pursue their vision for moving the Association positively into the 21st century. It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve the ANA in the capacity of governor for the last six years,” he said.

Wolka added that he would remain committed to other activities such as writing for The Numismatist, teaching at Summer Seminar and serving in any other way that would be deemed beneficial to the ANA.
