The Venice, Fla., Coin and Currency Club has elected its 2009 officers.
They are Nicholas “Nick” Saputo, president; Neal Burnett, vice president; Jeff Scalici, secretary; and John Oddo, treasurer. Outgoing club president George Athens was appointed as a club director.
George Athens was presented with a Lifetime Membership Award for his more than 31 years of service including his holding of various key positions over the past decade. President Saputo presented the award to Athens at the club’s annual holiday dinner at the Rib City Grill in Venice.
“George Athens has been a mainstay of this club,” said Saputo. “The club came close to folding several times over the past five years. It was George’s perseverance and dedication to the hobby that kept us going. We will welcome George’s sage advice and guidance over the coming years in his new role as a director.”
The club was established around 1961 and is currently host to some 25 members. Its corporate sponsor is North Port Coins of North Port, Fla.
Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month in the Venice City Hall Community Room. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Visitors are always welcome and there is no admission fee.
